If you've fractured, chipped, or broken a tooth, it’s essential to seek dental advice immediately. Try to reposition the tooth using gentle finger pressure, holding it in place with a damp tissue or gauze. Locate any missing fragments and rinse them in milk to remove any debris. If you can’t find the missing piece, contact your dentist straight away. Depending on the extent of the damage, your dentist may be able to restore the tooth.
We understand that many people feel anxious about dental visits, often due to past negative experiences. Our caring and gentle dentists are here to help you feel at ease. Whether you’re concerned about pain or the cost of treatment, let us know your worries. We’re committed to making your visit as comfortable as possible.
Losing a tooth can be alarming, but it's crucial to act swiftly. If a baby tooth has been knocked out, do not attempt to reinsert it, as this could harm the permanent tooth developing underneath. For adults, carefully retrieve the tooth by handling only the crown, avoiding contact with the root. Rinse the tooth gently with water, milk, or a sterile saline solution—do not scrub it. If possible, try to place the tooth back into its socket, holding it in place with medical gauze or a soft cloth by biting down gently. If reinsertion isn't successful, store the tooth in a glass of milk or saline solution. If these aren't available, place the tooth between your cheek and gums. Seek dental care immediately, as prompt action can significantly increase the chances of saving the tooth. If a dentist is not accessible, visit the nearest hospital emergency room with your tooth.
A dental emergency includes any situation involving severe injury to your mouth, such as uncontrolled bleeding, intense pain, or broken facial bones, which could be life-threatening.
While some hospitals in New Zealand offer emergency dental services, usually for pain relief, this should be considered a last resort. You may still need to consult a dentist afterward for further treatment.
